Ce Activities

  • PTCB doesn’t provide specific CE providers or activities.
  • Browse the CE Directory to find CEs that are ACPE accredited.

TYPES OF CE ACTIVITIES

  • Event type : You can earn CEUs by attending conferences, seminars, workshops and other educational events that contain a majority of the Content Outline. The activities can be a web-based or live presentation, virtual meeting or panel discussion.
  • Credit for College: You may submit no more than 10 hours of CE by taking a college-level course. A course that includes at least three academic credit hours must have a grade “C” (or better) and coursework related to Content Outline .
  • PTCB Voluntary: For unpaid participation to certain PTCB functions and activities that are vital for maintaining the Certification Program, CE hours can be earned. PTCB Certification Council decides what activities and functions qualify for CE credits and at what number.

Completing CE from Providers with Accreditation

  • You will receive an ACPE Universal Activity number (UAN, or ACPE) for each CE activity you completed from a CE provider accredited by ACPE.
  • Topic and Target Audience Designators are included in each UAN.
  • Accredited CE providers that offer CE for Pharmacy Technicians will have the ‘T’ target audience designation.
  • ACPE accredited CE providers who offer patient safety-specific CE will use the topic designation ’05.’
  • ACPE accredited CE providers who offer pharmacy-specific CE will use the topic designation ’03.’
  • ACPE-accredited CE Providers will designate ’07” as the topic for Compounding Specific CE Activities.

Completed by non-accredited providers

  • If the PTCB determines an activity to be CE, it will only accept the activity if the activity includes subject matter that is included in the PTCE Outline.
  • The pharmacy law CE programs offered by non-ACPE CE providers should address the federal, local, and state laws that impact pharmacists’ practice.
  • As defined by the ACPE Policies and Procedures manual, patient safety CE activities offered by non ACPE-accredited CE provider must focus on “the prevention and elimination of healthcare mistakes and the mitigation or reduction of injury to the patients caused due to healthcare errors.”

RENEWAL

  • For a PTCB certificate to remain active, all CE hours must be completed.
  • Recertification cycles begin when certifications are first earned, or when renewal applications are approved. They end at the expiration of certifications and last approximately two years.
  • CE hours that were completed prior to the commencement of a recertification process cannot be transferred into future recertification processes.
  • CE hours that are completed after expiration of certification cannot be counted towards recertification.
  • In a recertification process, completing a CE activity more than once is not allowed to satisfy the CE requirements. All duplicate CEs will be rejected for the following recertification.

60 DAY REPORTING PPERIOD FOR CE INFO TO CPE MODERATOR

  • Providers of CE accredited by ACPE have 60 calendar days to submit CE completion reports to NABP CPE Monitor.
  • PTCB uses CPE Monitor to audit CE completion data within 60-days of the submission date. Your application will be returned if CE information from CPE Monitor proves to be incompatible with CE requirements.

ATTESTING TO CE COMPLETION

  • If you are applying to renew your certification, you will need to attest that you’ve completed all CE requirements in the time frame of your recertification and you should select the statement confirming the origins of CE activities.

These are some examples of the options available in the CPhT certification application. Refer to the Required CE Hours at the top of this page to learn more about the CE requirements for your renewal.

Selecting ” attests that I have earned all continuing education (CEs) through ACPE-accredited provider.”

  • PTCB verifies your CE completion in CPE Monitor for a 60-day period from the date you submitted your application.

Selecting “Attests that I’ve earned continuing education credits (CE) through ACPE-accredited and/or non-ACPE providers“.

  • PTCB’s CPE Monitor will verify that CE hours have been completed within the last recertification process 60 days from the date your application was submitted. They will also review any manually entered CE data.

The PTCB will return your application if it is unable to verify your CE activity meets the required requirements.
