Do you qualify to receive your PTCB certification as a CPhT?

  • Residing in the United States of America (US) or one of its territories at the time of application.
  • The completion of an Education/Training program recognized by the PTCB or equivalent experience
  • Disclosure of criminal actions and State Board of Pharmacy Registration or Licensure.
  • Adhere to all PTCB Certification Policies
  • Must have a passing score for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam .

For a candidate to be eligible for PTCE they must have completed one of two paths:

1st Pathway :  Recognized Education/Training program by the PTCB (or within 60 days).

2nd Pathway . Equivalent Work Experience As a Pharmacy Technician (min. 500 hours). This alternate secondary pathway is for experienced PTCB technicians that are not able to enroll in a PTCB recognized program.

* At the time of applying, 500 hours should have been completed.

To Apply:

  • Create a account.
  • Log in to your PTCB account and apply for certification.
  • You will be notified via email once your application has been approved. This allows you to book your test.

The PTCE can be taken online at proctored tests or in person, with more than 1,400 Pearson Professional Centers across the country.

About PTCB Exam

  • The PTCE consists of 90 multiple choice questions. There are 80 questions that have been scored, and 10 unscored questions. Questions that aren’t scored are placed randomly in the exam. They aren’t identified.
  • You will need to dedicate 2 hours (a 5 minute tutorial, an hour and fifty-minute exam and a five-minute post-exam questionnaire) for your exam.
  • Your unofficial examination result will be displayed on screen directly after you have completed the post exam survey. A printed version of your unofficial exam results may also be provided at the test center. Within two or three weeks, you will receive the official results of your exam on your PTCB profile.

You can schedule an exam to be taken at a Pearson VUE testing center, or you can take it online on your computer with the supervision of a virtual invigilator.

  • If you are testing online, you must arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled test time.
  • You must bring any form of ID that matches the name on your PTCB account. The exam will not be started for you if your identification isn’t valid.
  • Before your exam, review the Candidates Guidebook to learn more about what you can expect. You can also review the Help Center for important information regarding online testing.

After you hit the submit button, your score card will be displayed to you. but they are not considered official scores. In most cases, official scores are available on your PTCB account within 3 weeks following your exam. PTCB is unable to speed up the processing of certification or exam information. Once you pass the test, you can verify your credentials from the official website.

Your certificate is available for download via your PTCB Account once you have been certified. You can also order a wallet-sized certificate and fine paper certification through your PTCB account for a nominal fee.
